It has been proven that flowers promote a sense of happiness and satisfaction with life in people, and the flower that is the favorite decoration of many homes these days is tulips. Colorful tulips everywhere remind you that spring is just around the corner, and this beautiful plant, adorned with flowers in a wide variety of colors, will find its way into many vases.
If you are one of the tulip lovers, we offer you some tips, how tulips they stay fresh as long as possible.
1. Buy young tulips
You may be tempted to buy fully open tulips from a florist, but this is only a good option if you want them to shine "for one night". But if you want them to last longer, choose tulips that are tightly closed and have green buds that are not yet fully colored. The flowers will open for several days, giving you more time to enjoy them. If you grow tulips yourself, which you intend to collect for a vase at home, cut them off, before they fully open and cut them as close to the ground as possible.

2. Provide them with water
Wrap the stems in a damp cloth or paper towels on the way home. When carrying tulips home from the florist, even a short distance, make sure to have water, because every moment without water causes the tulips to decay faster.
3. Cut off the bottom of the tulip
Cut off the lower part of the stem, at least half a centimeter, diagonally, at an angle of 45 degrees, as this will make it easier for the plant to absorb the necessary water from the vase.
4. Remove excess leaves from the stem
If the stems have leaves that will be submerged when you place the flowers in the vase, remove them. The leaves can rot and cause the flower to die earlier.
5. Choose a suitable vase
The vase should be tall enough so that at least half of the stem is under water. This way, the flower will be able to "lean" on the vase without bending. If your vase is too shallow, the flower will bend. Although you may be in the group of people who like this look of tulips, it is important to know that this will be the case the flower withered faster. Also, make sure the vase is clean so the tulips don't collect bacterial residue that causes faster rotting.

6. Watch the water temperature
Fill the vase with cold tap water to help the plant stay fresh. Warm or hot water will weaken tulips.
7. Arrangement of tulips in a vase
Place the stems in a circle. Arrange the tulips so that each has at least little space in the vase, instead of leaning against each other. If each tulip has at least a little space of its own, they will not crowd each other, and you will also prevent premature opening of the petals and extend their life.
8. Watch the amount of water
Tulips "drink" a lot of water. Be careful not to leave them in a dry place, as they will, logically, wither.
9. Avoid direct sunlight
Keep the vase with tulips away from direct sunlight, as they do not like heat at all.
10. Supplements
Flower protectant will greatly extend lifetime tulips. You can buy it at a flower shop and just follow the instructions for use. There are other tricks that those who have tried them claim work, including adding a little sugar or lemon juice to the vase.
