The Olympics are officially open! Tonight, the 28th Olympic Games officially began in Rio de Janeiro. FC Barcelona has unveiled plans for the new Camp Nou, the famous football stadium, which will now be called Nou Camp Nou. It is a megalomaniac project, the stages of which you can watch in the presentation video. The new stadium will accommodate as many as 105,000 spectators and will increase its leap ahead of other football stadiums in Europe. The facility will be almost completely transparent and will have a special section dedicated to Barcelona legend Johann Cruyff. The machines in the stadium and its surroundings will hum in 2017 and fall silent in 2021, but despite the works, it will never accommodate less than 95 thousand spectators!
Architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron has submitted plans for the construction of a new stadium for the English football club Chelsea. The proposed and brand new 60,000-seat arena would be located on the site of the current football stadium in London's Hammersmith and Fulham district. The plan includes the demolition of the existing football stadium and other buildings and the construction of a new, larger facility. The new stadium is also expected to have a store with football club merchandise, a museum and a separate restaurant and cafe.
The Slovenian bureau Ofis arhitekti recently completed the construction of a new football stadium in the Belarusian city of Borisov. The building sinks into the surrounding forest and is wrapped in an interesting metal facade of organic shapes.
