In 2014, Slovenia and the world were surrounded by the news that Slovenian storm chaser Marko Korošec won the prestigious National Geographic Traveler photography competition. A similar success has now been achieved by 13-year-old Slovenian Majo Kastelic, who was announced by the National Geographic Society as the winner of the international photography contest for young readers of the National Geographic Kids magazine.

Take a look at the winning photos from the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards, the world's biggest photography competition, which for the ninth time has taken a look at the photography output of the past 12 months worldwide. Among the winners is the Slovenian Andrej Tarfila, who took home the title of the winner of the national competition and the world winner of the travel category in the open competition. In the competition of a record 230,103 submitted works, the jury recognized Asghar Khamseh and his series of shocking portraits "Fire of Hate" as the best photographer, thus also awarding him the honorary photographic title L'Iris d'Or at a ceremony in London.
