Synecdoche, New York (Synecdoche, New York, 2008)

Synecdoche, New York is a drama about theater director Caden Cotard (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who throughout his life puts on the theater stage and eventually can no longer distinguish between the two. Cotard is ravaged by an unknown nervous disease, and his private life is turned upside down when his wife and daughter flee to Berlin. Soon after, Cotard receives high financial support for an artistic project, with which he begins to create a naturalistic theater performance in an abandoned warehouse. Caden is obsessed with death, which also has a strong influence on the theater work.

Lost in Translation (2003)

Black drama starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Both of them find themselves in Tokyo with their stories. Bob Harris (Murray) is a movie actor who has suffered a 'mid-life crisis', and Charlotte (Johansson) is a graduate who has been left alone in a hotel by her husband. Charlotte is confused about her future with her husband, a celebrity photographer, as she grows less comfortable with his lifestyle. So the two main players are alone and one evening they start to chat in the hotel bar. Through conversations about hardships, they grow closer, but soon go their separate ways.

Inside Llewyn Davis (About Llewyn Davis, 2013)

A comedy drama about a musician who wants to make it, while keeping his life in some sort of order. With a guitar in his hand and a cat on his shoulder, he wanders the streets of New York and struggles with ever new, seemingly insurmountable problems, many of which he created himself. An outstanding cast and a strong story are more than a good reason to sit down in front of the screen.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

A romantic comedy in which Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper) loses everything - his house, his job and his wife. He spends eight months in a mental institution by order of the court, after which he moves in with his parents. He wants to go back to his old ways, reconcile with his wife and bring optimism and meaning back to life. But when Pat meets the mysterious Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), who has her own set of problems, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only on the condition that he does something important for her in return. The agreement between them weaves a special bond...
