Will future Olympic medals be made from recycled phones? Organizers of the Tokyo Olympics are considering making medals from recycled metals obtained from recycled smartphones and other electronics in a bid to contribute to a cleaner environment.
They will be at the POI Tokyo 2020 awarded for the first time in history recycled medals? It can happen that they will Olympic medals in the future from recycled phones. Gold medals awarded at the OI Rio 2016, were produced from 494 grams of silver and 6 grams of gold.
Olympic medals were last made of pure gold in 1912, namely at the Summer Olympic Games in Stockholm, Sweden, and the first recycled medals can appear in 2020, when the games will be held in Tokyo. The organizer is committed to making the medals from recycled electronics (used smartphones, personal computers, etc.). This does not mean that they will be plastic or made of base metals, because there is quite a lot of gold, silver and copper in electronic components. Why copper? Because bronze coins are a combination of gold and copper and not bronze.

Organizers have already asked companies involved in recycled electronics to contribute their share of metals from their ti urban mines, they also ask people to "donate" devices. At the same time, they forgot that most of these metals already go back to the manufacture of electronics, so it would have that from an ecological point of view probably zero effect, but still can help with raising awareness. The Japanese annually create around 650 thousand tons of e-waste, which are formed by electronic and household appliances, only 100 thousand tons of which go to recycling.
