Facebook Messenger: 9 useful features you don't know about yet

Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular apps in the world. More than 700 million people use it every month. Last year, Facebook separated Messenger from the main Facebook app, and since then Messenger has had many more features that allow for more than typical messaging. For example, did you know that you can use Messenger to send money and make video calls, among other things? Here are nine Facebook Messenger features you probably don't know about.

9 useful features of Facebook Messenger that you don't know about yet:

1. We can make free voice and video calls through Facebook Messenger.

Messenger doesn't just send text messages. The application also supports voice calls and video calls. So if we want to call someone who has the Messenger application installed on their phone, we click on the video icon or the phone icon in the upper right corner of the message window, next to the name.

2. We can talk to brands on Facebook Messenger.

Facebook has partnered with several merchants and also with Zendesk, a platform that allows buyers to talk to businesses. Thus, when making a purchase, we can receive our order information via Messenger. We can request a shipment status update or talk to customer support right in the app itself. Facebook is starting to include more and more businesses.

3. We can share our location on Facebook Messenger.

When we are in a conversation, we click the location button in the lower right corner to share our location or mark the desired location on the map.

4. We can also use other applications in Facebook Messenger.

Apps like Giphy are integrated directly into Messenger. This means we can use Giphy to quickly share a GIF in a conversation. If we want to see the list of all applications, we can click on the button with three dots in the lower right corner.

5. Facebook Messenger can also be used from the web application for Facebook.

Did you know that Facebook Messenger also has a web app for desktop? All we have to do is log in to Messenger.com.

6. With Facebook Messenger, we can "mute" the conversation.

If you'd rather not be disturbed by people, you can turn off the conversation without leaving it. First, we click on the i icon next to the person or group we are talking to, and then "Notifications". The conversation can be muted for a specified or indefinite time.

7. We can organize group conversations with Facebook Messenger.

The section of the Messenger app that we probably use less or not at all is Groups. If we are dealing with multiple groups of people, this is more than a great feature. Groups can be classified into grids and new groups can be created with a photo and a name.

8. We can send money to a friend via Facebook Messenger.

Among other things, Facebook makes it possible to transfer money from our bank account to anyone on Messenger. Each transaction can take up to a few business days depending on the bank, but Facebook does not charge for the service. The service is not yet available in Slovenia.

9. After some time we will be able to use M, a virtual assistant who will do quite a few tasks for us.

Facebook is currently working on its virtual assistant, called M, which will work directly in Messenger. It will help us with restaurant and holiday bookings and shopping and more. Right now, Facebook M is only available to a small group of people who use the app in the San Francisco Bay Area, but the social network's goal is for all 700 million Messenger users to use M eventually.
