Google is more than a search engine, it has become a verb! "Google it!" is the answer you get when you're looking for a quick answer from a friend. Do you really know how to google or just think you know how to google? Already using Google tricks and shortcuts to get even more accurate results? Here are 30 tricks for using Google!
Although Google we use practically all day and every day, few people know the many tricks that can make Googling even more effective! Google gives billions of results in milliseconds, but we have to find those that really interest us. It's a good thing that there are tricks that make it even easier for us to find relevant search results.
1. The minus sign
If you're looking for something and you know what you don't want to to see among the results, add a dash before the unwanted word or minus, e.g. lasagna recipe -meat and you will get results for lasagna recipes without meat.
2. Definition of a certain concept
If you are interested in the definition of a term, type define search term. Example: define psychology.
3. Or - kill two birds with one stone
Do two searches at once and type between the searched words Or.
4. Synonym of the searched word
If you are interested in results that are synonyms of the searched word, type a character before the searched term ~, example ~ restoration.
5. The word in the title
Type it intitle and the search word and Google will only give you results where that word appears in the title.
6. Link to a specific page
If you want to know on which websites a link to a specific page appears, type in the search field link:the name of the website you are interested in.
7. Search for GIFs
Do you have 10 minutes too much time and are a little bored? If you like them GIFs, click on Images, Search Tools and select animated instead of Any type... and all searched words will be in the form of GIFs.
8. Searching for content in a specific format
If you want to find content in a specific format, e.g. in PDF or PowerPoint, add more to the search term file type:PPT or the desired format and desired content.
9. Finding the original source
You know the good one quote, but not its original source? Equip it with quotation marks, e.g. ”to live is to learn” and you will find out who the author of the quote is and where it first appeared.
10. Searching for content on a specific site
Are you curious about what content about a search term appears on a particular website? Type it search term site: name of the website and the answers will quickly redirect you to the desired content, for example watermelon site:citymagazine.si
11. Google Quick Fix
Can't remember the title of a song that's stuck in your head or an item invented by a specific innovator? Replace the missing text, title or word with an asterisk * and Google will find you the solution you have at the end of your tongue, example: Sgt Pepper *
12. Fastest search: weather
Are you interested in the weather in a specific place? Weather Ljubljana ... and you won't have any more excuses why you forgot your umbrella.
13. Tracking the package or shipment
If you are already impatiently waiting for a package from abroad, you can enter the package number in the search field and the results will tell you where it is currently located.
14. Got an equation but not a result?
Do you have a math equation in front of you, but no time to refresh your math knowledge? Just type the equation into the search field and Google will calculate it.
15. Numerical range
To specify a specific number range, type .. space and numbers in a certain range, e.g. if you are shopping for a camera, type the model you want and delimit the price range with two periods and a space. For example: camera 300.. 500 euros.
16. Searching for a specific offer or service
If you are in a foreign city and you are looking for a specific offer or service, you can add stars to the end of the search word or phrase postal code and the results will only show providers within that zip code.
17. Map search to location
Looking for a map (to) the exact location? Enter the name of the location and folders.
18. Calculation of currencies
For currency conversion type amount currency name this currency name e.g. 150 dollars to one euro; the same applies to the conversion of measurement units (e.g. 150 pounds to kg).
19. Search movies by actors
Type the name of the player and e.g. movies (or songs) and Google will immediately show you which movies he recorded, e.g. bradley cooper movies.
20. Searching for book titles
For works by a specific author, type in the search field Books by and the name of the author and you will get a list of his works. You will get even more information at Google Books Search.
21. Arrival of planes
If you are interested in the arrival of a certain plane, you will find out by entering the flight code in the search field: type it flight and flight code.
22. Drug information
We like to throw away medicine boxes quickly, but forget the information. The solution? A search field, the name of the drug and we already have all the necessary information. If we type the name of the disease, we also get information about this topic.
23. Local time around the world
If you would like to call a friend in New York, remember that their time zone is 6 hours behind ours. For accurate local time in different time zones on Earth, rely on Google's accuracy and type thereby the desired location, e.g. time new york.
24. Sunrise and sunset
Information about the setting and rising of the sun anywhere on Earth is incredibly easy to access. Just google it sunrise (or sunset) and enter the name of the desired location.
25. Finding attractions
Would you like to find something but don't know what? Then leave the search box empty and click Click on luck and let Google guide you around gallery Doodle covers and highlights dating back to 1998.
26. Translation of the word
Type the word for a quick translation translate desired word this desired language. Example: translate weather to spanish.
