Jeep renegade – the smallest jeep with excellent climbing abilities

The Jeep brand is experiencing a revival, because after the new generations of Grand Cherokee and Cherokee, the smaller renegade has also been reincarnated. It brings a good combination of retro and modern touches and plenty of advanced technology. As the only true SUV in the segment, there are also three versions of four-wheel drive and prices starting at 20,000.

To lovers the popular American expert on off road – brands Jeep is a name renegades certainly very well known. Since the beginning of the 1980s, it has meant, smaller, a a powerful SUV, who was ready and able to tackle even the most difficult terrains, and his roots go back much further with his connection to the legendary Willys.

With a ground clearance of 210 mm, the record-breaker in the segment also offers extremely long shock absorbers (up to 170 mm at the front, 205 mm at the rear), under which the off-road specialist Koni is signed. All this means carefree driving in water up to a depth of 480 mm.

And this is precisely what can be felt in the external image of the newcomer, which enters the segment of smaller SUVs as the only true off-road vehicle, as the front part retains the characteristic seven-slot engine mask and round headlights, which can shine in classic halogen or modern bi-xenon technology. According to the measurements, 4,255 mm as far as the meter shows in length and 1,805 mm in terms of height, it is thus enthroned in an increasingly crowded segment of smaller SUVs, in which it drives in the forefront in terms of ground clearance (210 mm) and spring travel (up to 205 mm).

Robust interior, with a sense of detail

The interior surprises with attention to detail, which we are not used to in this time and segment. For example, the print of the Willys mask on the (leather) seats, on the speaker covers and the relief mask of the famous park from the USA at the bottom of the dumps, and the print of the legendary Willys fuel handle in the trunk, to name just a few. Entering the cabin is off-road high and easy, thank you for that 210 mm clearance from the ground.

The passenger cabin is typical for this brand, and the driver's seat is practically identical to that of both Cherokees. You also don't need to worry about the space, as it will fit well even a small family.

Otherwise, the passenger cabin brings a distinctively tailored driver's workspace, the same as that of the aforementioned Grand Cherokee and Cherokee models, but overall the interior is robust, while the materials are nevertheless pleasant to the touch and look. Despite its smaller dimensions, the Renegade also has family aspirations, as a family with one or two small children will get along more than well with it, as it has a sufficiently spacious passenger cabin and sufficient 351 liter trunk, which, by knocking down the bench seat, you can easily increase to much more concrete ones 1,297 liters volumes.

The interior is full of nice details and symbolism, such as the Willys mask print on the leather seats or on the speaker bezels. Likeable and commendable.

A rich set of advanced techniques

Seen as a whole, the passenger cabin is more robust and continues the retro-modern design approaches. They are available four equipment packages: sport, longitue, limited and even more field-oriented trailhawk, but the buyer gets manual air conditioning, an audio device with bluetooth, all safety equipment and a five-inch touch-sensitive screen. Cruise control is standard from the second package onwards, automatic air conditioning from the third. The Limited gets another half inch larger screen with standard navigation and one inch (ie 17″) larger alloy wheels.

The range of engines consists of six aggregates namely three on each side. On the gasoline side, we find aggregates from families E-torq and multiair, capacities from 81 to 125 kW power, and three on the diesel side multijet machines with power from 88 to 125 kW. The gearbox is only a five-speed manual on the weakest gasoline engine, otherwise it has a higher gear ratio, and on the most powerful engines on both poles, the latter is replaced by an advanced nine-speed automatic, for which Jeep wants to have "salted" four thousand euros.

In 4WD versions, the driver has a choice of four drive modes: auto, snow, sand and mud, while the trailwhawk version is designed for even the most challenging rock. In addition, HDC functions and center differential lock.

The range of drives is, as usual, also extremely rich, as they are readily available four different drives: 2WD and three versions of 4WD active drive drive. "Basic" is pluggable, which means that under normal circumstances, the Renegade is driven to the front wheels, but if necessary, the electronics also sends part of the torque to the rear wheels. The driver also has four operating modes at his disposal: auto, snow, sand or mud (trailhawk still rock), and if necessary, the torque in the ratio 50:50 can also be locked. Those who want even more can, in combination with automatic transmission, get an even more powerful version of active drive low, which is richer in keys: HDC (controlled descent system) and 4WD low, and the trailhawk version has, in addition to a different body, which allows greater entry and exit angles, also different gear ratios and field program rock, for slow climbing on the most demanding terrains.

Prices on the petrol side they start at 19,990 euros, the cheapest diesel and in the offer will make it easier for you to 23,490 euros. The cheapest renegade with 4WD drive is the 2.0 multijet version with a 103 kW engine and the longitude package, which costs at least 26,490 euros.
