The iconic DeLorean from Back to the Future is back!

The DeLorean DCM-12, the iconic coupe made eternally famous by its role in the film Back to the Future, is making a comeback. The manufacturer has obtained all the necessary permits to restart the production of this futuristic car from the 80s, which was discontinued in 1982. In fact, it is not a production, but an assembly, because the DeLorean Motor Company already bought the original spare parts two decades ago parts held by the Warranty Parts Center. For it to rise like a phoenix from the ashes, it goes to the soul of the amendment to the law, which enables the homologation of the car. The quantity is said to be sufficient for around 500 new old vehicles.

Cars with lifting doors, rear-mounted engine and unpainted stainless steel body will be classed as replicas, according to the 1982 specification they should be built around 300. The price for the pop culture icon will be around 100 thousand US dollars, and the car will bear the year of 2017. It will then be 35 years since the last vehicle was produced (the last of some 9,000 examples left the factory in 1982).

DeLorean 2017 will be a mirror image of the DeLorean DCM-12 from more than thirty years ago (the car will only be modified to meet the standards of the US Environmental Protection Act, which means that it will be quite more powerful and comfortable - the suspension will be better, the wheels and brakes will be bigger), but otherwise the company, which was founded in 1995 (John DeLorean's company closed its doors after failure, the company DMC Houston but in addition to spare parts, it also bought the brand name), also offers a redesigned version of the DeLorean, which is also half the price it will cost a replica of the original (approx. 41 thousand euros).
