We are not overly used to limited series in this size and price range, especially from this brand. The Helly Hansen version of the Captur convinces with its red and black color combination, extensive standard equipment and an excellent and economical diesel engine. Less convincing is the substantial price in the immediate vicinity of 20 thousand.
The Captur has already established itself well in the minds of buyers as an elevated and more comfortable clio, which is friendlier to passengers and luggage in the second row thanks to the movable bench seat.
More than just a facelifted clio
It is less known that a special version of the well-known is now available sportswear brands, which attracts buyers with a performance image, truly generous standard equipment and with the extended grip system, with the help of which you will drive much more confidently into a ravine. All this, however, also brings with it a slightly more salty price, which is not excessively lowered 1,200 euros discount, which the importer offers on it.
The main difference, or rather, the advantage of the captur compared to the clio, in addition to sitting higher and consequently easier getting in and out of the vehicle, is the movable bench seat in the second row. With the help of this trunk from basic 377-, namely grows to 455 liters, which makes it much more family-friendly, and by knocking down only this, you can increase the space up to 1,235 liters, which is according to 4.12 meters, as long as the captur measures in length a commendable achievement.
Two-tone body and more chrome
But that goes for all capturs anyway. The Helly Hansen version can be recognized on the outside by two-tone bodywork, where the main part is bright red, off-road white (reinforcements), roof and side mirrors, and in contrasting black. They are also near the latter Helly Hansen badges, and the same motif is repeated on the thresholds. There seems to be more chrome, which in addition to the mask also surrounds the area of the fog lights, and the same motif is also on the side in the form of a concrete chrome strip. The rear is practically the same as that of the other versions, but the undercarriage protection at the bottom of the rear fits perfectly.
Also inside is repeated red and black motif, and the cabin is more respectable, mainly due to better upholstery and a steering wheel with imitation carbon. The sides and part of the seat part of the seats are covered in leather, and the rest in a modern and respectable fabric. In several places on the dashboard, the plastic is covered in a contrasting red color, the same applies to the surrounds of the round air vents and the center console. In the second row, the two classic pockets on the backrests gave way to self-wired ropes in red.

Otherwise, the interior is quite dark and due to the large amount of plastic, it looks a bit artificial, but there is more space in the first row than you expect, and compared to the clio, the passengers in the second row will also feel better, both in the head and knee area, if you just slightly moved the bench seat towards the trunk. In terms of equipment, the special version doesn't skimp, as you get everything from LED daytime running lights, factory navigation in the form of a system R-Link, parking cameras and last but not least, the system extended grip. There's also cruise control, a smart card, 17-inch alloy wheels and acoustic parking aids, so we didn't miss anything in terms of equipment. But basically, we were just missing something. Namely central armrest, especially because we tested the clio with the techno package right before that, but this lovely addition just overpowered it.
1.5 dCi is colorful to his skin
Under the hood, a chislan spins 1.5 liter diesel with 66 kW and 220 Nm, which we have already driven in very different models of the Renault group and it has never left us cold. He does equally well in the captur, where it seems as if he is literally written on his skin. In the lower regime, it is a little lazy, but a little below two thousand revolutions it really comes alive and likes to rev up.
In favor of greater comfort on the AC, it's just a shame that the manual transmission doesn't have a fifth gear, but to be honest, that could only increase the price. 1.5 dCi and with it the Captur consumes around five liters, which together with 96 grams of CO2 emissions excellent result, with the fact that we on the test given the slightly heavier leg spent with it just under six liters. The chassis and suspension seem to be more average, which are sufficient for the Captur and most of its drivers, but when driving more dynamically, they show that they prefer a more comfortable and leisurely ride to a sporty one. The sound insulation is equally average, where the sixth gear would at least slightly limit the aforementioned engine noise.
The price, which came extremely close, is also less excellent 20 thousand, which is quite high considering the micro suv segment, despite the diesel heart and really rich equipment. It's a bit better if we take into account 1,200 euros discount, which the importer offers for all Helly Hansen versions of the captur. But fashion suits have never been cheap, especially not this special version. Which also has its charm, and buyers of such special versions value it the most.
