Škoda fabia – the Czech polo that wants to be better than the "original"

The new generation Fabia will certainly be one of the biggest premieres at the October Salon in Paris, and Škoda has bold plans for it. The third generation of this model has lost 65 kg, and there will be a choice of seven engines, two gearboxes and also a combi version. Unfortunately, the newcomer will lose the sporty RS, but the Monte Carlo versions will still be available to the more sporty-minded.

The third generation of the model, which was first introduced in 1999, will be placed on a modified version PQ26 platform, the wheelbase was stretched to 2,470 mm, and the vehicle is 31 millimeters lower and 90 mm wider from the model saying goodbye. The front track has also gained 30 mm, and the rear one a millimeter more. The trunk will now basically accept for 330 liters luggage. It will also still be available station wagon version, which will be proud with a 530-liter basic trunk.

The weight is average reduced by 65 kilograms, where basic version (1.0 MPI) now weighs everything 980 kg.

The interior remains unknown for now, but it is said that quite a few parallels can be drawn with the current rapid spaceback, as well as some with the recently renovated Polo.

As far as the range of engines is concerned, the basis will be the aforementioned one 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 44 kW or 55 kW power, and there will be two higher versions 1.2-liter TSI with 66 and 81 kW respectively.

It will be the most economical in the range 1.4-liter TDI greenline engine that will develop 55 kW and will consume only 3.1 liters of fuel on average and release 82 grams of CO2 into the atmosphere. The offer will include other 1.4-liter diesel engines with a maximum power of 66 or 77 kW.

Basically, the gearbox will be a five-speed manual, with the more powerful 1.2-liter TSI, it will get an even higher gear ratio, and it will be replaced for an additional fee DSG automatic, which will also be available with the most powerful diesel option.

The Fabia of the third generation should lost the sporty RS version namely due to poor sales of the current generation. However, there were fairly loud rumors some time ago that it would continue to be available to sporty buyers monte carlo versions, which sold surprisingly well. The Czech media also report on the basic prices, which should start at 8,950 euros on the domestic market, something similar can be expected here.
