The Puma BMW X-Cat Disc is not the first sneaker inspired by a car. In 2000, Adidas and basketball player Kobe Bryant presented sneakers based on the Audi TT model, but they did not meet with an overly good response. It was the first ever shape-shifting car wrapped in fabric.

German brand sportswear and footwear brand Puma turned to the Munich studio to create the Puma BMW X-Cat Disc Designworks, a BMW subsidiary. Together they created silver sneakers made of super light material (borrowed from GINI itself, which is covered in fabric placed over meshes of metal wires that move) that fits the wearer like a second skin, and the laser-perforated front part offers additional ventilation.
The sole design was inspired by engine gears, and instead of laces, the sneaker uses a distinctive tightening ring. You can order them for approx. 120 euros.
