Just as the standard for the ideal female body changed throughout history, so did the fashion for women's swimwear, which was a reflection of the moment. They reflect new ideas, colors, cuts, materials and patterns, and at the same time embody the spirit of the times. The ancient Greeks and Romans bathed naked (although there is evidence that even then women already wore clothes similar to today's), and ever since 1678, when naked bathing was prohibited by law, bathing suits have been part of the "iron repertoire" of every wardrobes. Women's swimwear from the 20th century onwards enjoy high popularity. Swimming has become recreation, it has become an inseparable part of vacationing and bathing associated with pleasure and leisurely living, and their task is much more than just covering intimate parts of the body. Between the years 1900 and 1920, they were made of wool and with trousers, in 1930 they were popular wings and cotton swimwear. Soon after, they succeed breaking through to beauty pageants (the first of its kind was for Miss America). Next comes the arrival of the most cult model - bikini, which was named after Bikini Atoll, where nuclear tests were carried out during the war (the influence of these swimsuits on men is said to be strong like an explosion).

Since 1950, swimwear has become springboard for Hollywood actresses. Five years later, five minutes of fame are experienced by swimsuits with panties over the navel, and five more monobikinks later.
