Restaurant Day – a fresh culinary festival

Restaurant Day is a culinary festival during which anyone can open their own restaurant for one day. Anywhere and anytime on a specific day. Restaurant Day takes place four times a year, once per season or time of year. This is the second time that Restaurant Day has joined many culinary events here. The team brought him to us for the first time last November Cat pies, who says that compared to the others, this one is more socially oriented, as in addition to fulfilling the desire to have one's own restaurant, it encourages people to cook and enjoy food together: "Individuals can open their own restaurant, cafe or pastry shop for a day and show off their culinary skills to others. They can do this in their home, in the garden or in a clearing in the forest.”

The nearest restaurant can be found on the website Restaurant Days, but if we are brave enough, we can also tackle the project ourselves. We simply mark our restaurant on the map, publish the menu, the restaurant's opening hours, and the like. There are no rules as to what the post must be or how the restaurant must operate. »A group of friends can get together and prepare a real feast with several courses, someone can imagine a "finger-food party" or someone can go out into the street with a "food card"! This should not be done by established restaurants or companies dealing with cuisine, nor is it desirable to use the day for any kind of political or religious propaganda," they explain at Mačje pita. The company of young upstarts, which is becoming more and more famous for baking a wide variety of pies, was most excited by the concept of the event, as they found it fun and interesting, and above all, something new. They decided last year to support the project and open the doors of their restaurant for one day: "We have a lot of inspiring culinary stories in Ljubljana, which we decided to spread.”

From blueprints to your own restaurant

It is definitely of key importance for opening a restaurant timely planning. If we are going to join the cooking gourmets ourselves, we must choose a suitable and accessible location and prepare promotional material. We have to decide what kind of dishes we will prepare and make sure that they are feasible in terms of time. Cat pies, who already have experience with this, emphasize that a few days before the big day, we need to buy a sufficient amount of food and equip the place to receive guests. »It is recommended to prepare a tested dish for which we know exactly how much time is required for its preparation. On the "Restaurant day" itself, we have to be so organized that the guests do not wait too long for the meal or that we do not invite too many of them! However, we ensure a good atmosphere, as all visitors know that it is an amateur restaurant that can afford a crash here and there," they add.

Of course, everything rarely goes according to plan, since we are not the organizers of the event, but only the participants. Isn't the point of having fun? The Mačjih pit team still hopes that an event like Restaurant Day is an indication of something bigger openness of people. »Not only to new experiences, but also to fellow human beings. Meeting new and interesting lovers of good food is always interesting, fun and in a way an adrenaline event when you are late preparing the last course or forget the fire and your favorite sauce burns.”

So let's put on our chef hats and roll up our sleeves. With our goodies, we will eat four times a year, February 15, May 16, August 16 and November 21, joined thousands of restaurants and provided a real culinary adventure.
