Although it seems at first glance, November is not an ordinary month, let alone a boring one. It is the month that film lovers look forward to the most, because with a treasure trove of fresh films from all over the world at this year's Liff - the Ljubljana Film Festival, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, we will undoubtedly get our money's worth.
This year, we have to circle November 11 in red on the calendar, because on this day, in the Linhart Hall of Cankarjev dom, we will witness the ceremonial opening of this year's 25th Liffe - Ljubljana Film Festival, which will be shown on the big screens. 98 feature films and 21 short films. If we could, we would watch every single one, but what about when the movies roll in Cankarjev dom, Kinodvor, Slovenski kinoteka and Kinu Šiška in Ljubljana and Maribor Coliseum. The doors to the Liffey at 7:30 p.m., after a short introductory event, are opened by Jacques Tati's film Time to Play, which is also included in the thematic retrospective Big Screen.

In addition to the thematic retrospective Big Screen, which covers films that even connoisseurs want to see only on the big screen due to their special audiovisual qualities, as in previous years, the festival sections are joined by Perspectives, the official competition section of young directors for the Vodomec award, film highlights in the Previews , the works of recognizable and award-winning masters of contemporary cinema between Kings and Queens, Panorama of world cinema with festival favorites from five continents and Extravaganza, in the framework of which we are waiting for midnight cinema with diverse, bolder and titillating content. There will also be the sets Dedicated to Aleksej German and Dedicated to Ruben Östlund, Kinobalon and Europe in a Nutshell.
All sets bring plenty of cinematic pleasures, so there is no doubt that everyone will find something for their taste. Among the more acclaimed and high-profile feature films this year, mention is made of The View of Silence by director Joshua Oppenheimer, 20,000 Days on Earth, in which we will follow the life of Nick Cavo on his twenty thousandth day, the visually rich film Mamica by the young Canadian director Xavier Dolan, who is already known from Liffe, and the impressive Alejandro González Iñárritu's directorial masterpiece called Birdman.
