The Summer Museum Night will take place for the twelfth time in a row. On the day that summer begins, museums, galleries and exhibition centers will open their doors free of charge to visitors of all ages from late afternoon until midnight.
Summer museum night attracts many visitors every year, last year's attendance was record-breaking more than 37,000 visitors removed to at least one institution. The event usually reaches its peak in the evening, when otherwise such institutions are already closed, and maybe a visit then is special for that reason. Actions of this type take place all over the world, and the special feature of the Summer Museum Night in Slovenia is that it takes place all over the country (it takes place under the auspices of the Association of Museums of Slovenia), that admission is free and that the event is accompanied by a varied program.
This year, participating in the campaign are 72 institutions and more than 100 locations. The event includes almost fifty cities throughout Slovenia, from Lendava to Piran, from Jesenice to Metlika. The locations from previous years have been joined by many new ones, including the Brewery Museum, the MoTA Cultural Association, the Parenzana Museum Izola, the Land of Kozolcs Šentrupert, the Atelier Gallery...
The event is intended for the whole family, for those who regularly visit museums, and especially for those who come here only occasionally. Museums, galleries and exhibition centers are also preparing a rich program of workshops, screenings, presentations, guided tours, and a musical program.
