You realize that turbulence is not the same as being chased by a lion and running for your life. But how do you explain this to your body, which reacts in a similar way? We're offering you 10 simple yet expert-proven strategies because we know you deserve a longer, worry-free trip.
1. Look at the picture of your destination several times – look at the picture on your phone or brochure and let yourself dream about your extraordinary vacation at the final destination. Just close your eyes and relax. When you truly dream, you will also be rewarded with the completion of the flight.
2. Skip coffee and alcohol – this way you will be less dehydrated on the flight and feel better. There is also less chance of "jetlag". Instead, have water or a light meal such as nuts or an apple.
3. Take a book or favorite series with you – in this way, you will feel as at home as possible even on the flight and you will not pay so much attention to the sounds and movements in the plane.
4. Breathe to calm yourself down - if you are under stress during take-off or flight, help yourself by breathing. Sit comfortably and take a deep breath and slowly exhale deeply. In this way, you will calm down and prevent hyperventilation.
5. Arm yourself with knowledge – statistics are your friend this time. In fact, the probability of an accident occurring is 1 in 30,000,000, or 0.000003%. If we are talking about transportation, the air mode of transportation is the safest. When traveling by plane, you are most at risk in the car on the way to the airport. You are also more likely to die from food poisoning or being struck by lightning.
6. Expect sudden movements and noises in the plane - the fear of flying is largely influenced by the fact that we do not know what will happen in a few moments. We wonder why the plane suddenly has such accelerations? Why are my ears blocked? I just think the left wing is not the same as the right? Why do we have to stay attached? And when we don't know what's going on, we instinctively expect the worst. Therefore, it makes sense to learn how the flight itself will take place before the flight. The more you understand the process of flying, the less you will have to worry about.
7. Be aware that the door will not open – when you fly high, the pressure on the door will also increase and it will be impossible for it to open (at an altitude of 10,000 m, the weight of pressure on the door will be 10,000 kg)¸
8. Planes will not collide - there is almost no chance of the planes meeting each other. They are constantly in contact with the airport control tower, which ensures the safe take-off and landing of planes and their distance, regardless of weather conditions. In addition, the planes themselves contain control mechanisms on the basis of which they can adjust flight paths.
9. Worries about the weather – many people worry about traveling through the storm. The fact is that the weather is always checked carefully by the airlines before the flight and modern radar devices can detect storms that are 160 miles away. If the plane is already in the air, it will avoid the storm cloud or even land at another airport. Rain does not affect the aircraft's ability to fly, and the aircraft is also resistant to lightning strikes.
10. Turbulence - fast movements in the plane are not beneficial to those who would rather stay on the ground. But once they understand what causes the turbulence, the fear is greatly reduced. This is because the plane moves from an area with high air pressure to a low one (or vice versa) and this can cause a "crash". This is not dangerous, but pilots avoid turbulence because they want to transport passengers to their desired destination as calmly as possible.
