11 adorable and unusual pets of US presidents

You probably won't be surprised by the fact that American presidents have also given homes to exotic pets and named them in different ways. Here are 11 who have walked the halls of the White House.

1. GEORGE WASHINGTON – THE AMERICAN DEER HAIR

We don't know what the first dogs of America's first president were. Name choices “Sweetlips”, “Scentwell” and “Vulcan” however, apart from some characteristics, they do not reveal much.

2. JOHN QUINCY ADAMS - SILK WINNERS

Adams had a bunch of silkworms. Although his wife Abigail is said to have made all the decisions, we suspect that Adams kept the insects so he could threaten people into feeding his silkworms.

3. JOHN F. KENNEDY - THE RABBIT

Some people say that John F. Kennedy behaved like a rabbit, but we didn't know that he also owned one. In the middle dogs, cats, canaries, ponies, cows and hamsters Jack had a bunny named after one of his alleged mistresses - Zsa Zsa Gabor.

4. ANDREW JACKSON - FIGHTING ROOSTERS

Jackson didn't just have fun with slaves and displacement of natives, but also with their fighting cocks.

5. BENJAMIN HARRISON – OPOSUM

Ben named his possums Mr. Reciprocity (Reciprocity) and Mr. Protection (Security).

6. JAMES BUCHANAN - ELEPHANTS

The King of Siam was kind enough to give James Buchanan some elephants. The myth says that these are supposed to be war elephants, although they were very calm and donated to the zoo.

7. HERBERT HOOVER - ALLIGATORS

President Hoover, like most presidents, owned a few dogs, as well of alligators, which his son loved very much. Unfortunately, their names are not known.

8. THOMAS JEFFERSON - THE BEARS

Judging by research, Jefferson should have had it brought some grizzly bears and let them relax and roam the White House lawn when they got too big for their cages.

9. MARTIN VAN BUREN – TIGERS

President Van Buren enjoyed the company tiger cubs. He received them from the Sultan of Oman, but Congress forced him to put them in the zoo as they were a gift to the people.

10. THEODORE ROOSEVELT - BEAR CUB

Besides zebra, lion, hyena and coyote joined the company in the White House bear cub named Jonathan Edwards.

11. CALVIN COOLIDGE – THE LION CUB, THE RACCOON AND THE BEAR

A pair of lion cubs – Tax Reduction (Tax reduction) and Budget Bureau (Budget Office). In the picture is his wife with raccoon – to either Rebecca or Horace. Calvin also owned it black bear.
