With all my recent posts about forests, you would almost forget that the best part of Slovenia is the high diversity of different landscapes, within a close driving distance. This is where we were yesterday: in the Dry Karst region which is situated in the south of the country. Here, you can feel Mediterranean influences. It is clearly warmer, which we often use to relax on a winter day. It is also drier. Even now, at the end of October, there were butterflies flying around and grasshoppers jumped away in front of our feet. This particular place is very spectacular because of these big, weathered limestone cliffs. They are the "ears" of Slovenia because they reflect and amplify sounds in funny ways. When you stand underneath, you can hear all kinds of sounds from far away in the valley 🙂 In summer, this is a place where you can see Red-rumped swallows and Blue rock thrushes. Once, while we were here with one of our guests, a short-toed eagle flew past at a very close distance. But even when there are no special birds, the landscape is spectacular enough to go here. Kayak adventure through the Pece Underground
