Today we celebrate all of us who love books. Writers, poets, publishers, librarians and all of us who love to read. World Book Day is dedicated to reading, publishing, copyright protection and intellectual content. We celebrate World Book Day for a whole week in different places around Slovenia.
It's World Book Day Unesco declared in 1995, so every year April 23rd, we also celebrate several important anniversaries of the world's literary creators, who helped to dedicate one day of the year to books. The following were born or died on this day: Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, William Shakespeare, Vladimir Nabokov, Cervantes, Maurice Druon. April 23 is also the day when cities hand over the title of World Book Capital. This year, this flattering title was awarded to the Nigerian port city of Port Harcourt.
