Are you wondering how to choose the perfect watermelon? There are 4 steps in front of you, which are quite important when choosing a juicy, fresh and "crispy" watermelon, so write them down!
Is there anything better in summer than a juicy and ripe watermelon? It can be enjoyed in various forms, as a main course, side dish or dessert. But to make the watermelon really perfect, we present it to you 4 steps to the perfect watermelon, and in the sequel you will also find a trick with which you will removed pesky seeds from watermelon.
1. Weight of watermelon
When you take a watermelon in your hands and weigh it down, it should be as heavy as possible for its size.
2. The sound of a watermelon
When you tap the watermelon, it should sound hollow, not deep. If the sound is hollow, it means that the watermelon was picked recently and is fresh and juicy. But if the sound is deep, the watermelon is probably already rotten or at least mushy. Most likely, it has been stored somewhere for a long time, so we do not recommend this kind of watermelon.
3. The color of the spot, i.e. where the watermelon lies on the ground
The color of this stain should be yellow and never white. The longer the watermelon lies on the ground, the more yellow the part where it touches the ground will be. Therefore, the watermelon will be sweeter, since it has ripened for a longer time. Those that have a white stain, however, were picked (too) quickly and will never be as full of flavor.
4. Mesh "stain" on watermelon
If you see a brownish rough spot on the rind of a watermelon that looks like a net, it means that a bee has visited the watermelon and fertilized it. The more spots there are, the more times the watermelon has been pollinated and, as a result, the sweeter it is.
