According to the latest data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (Surs), 69 percent of Slovenian names and 58 percent of surnames are unique. This year, Slovenians had as many as 54,000 different names, and Surs counted 114,000 surnames. Is your first and last name also on the unique list?

According to the percentages, this is currently the case in Slovenia 69 percent of unique names or 58 percent unique surnames. As much as 76 percent of the latter consist of two surnames that they have married women. On the other hand, 61 percent are composed among unique names. This includes names that count as one name due to a unique combination of two names.

He has been in Slovenia for the last year the number of different names increased by 790 and at the beginning of 2016 comprised 53,759 names, which are evenly distributed between the sexes, as it is unique 28,157 female and 25,602 male names. Unique surnames, i.e. surnames that only one person has (by the way, surnames appeared in Slovenian only in the 13th century, otherwise they are a 'product' of the 9th century), was in the same period 113.531.

And what they are most common names in Slovenia? He continues his reign Franc (25,083), followed by John and Ivan, and for women he is still on the throne Mary (58,698) with "sidekicks" Ana and Maja. Marija, in addition to first place in the number of women with this name, holds another (infamous) primacy. It is the name that is disappearing the fastest (in the last period they disappeared 1830). On the list of names that are losing frequency the fastest in recent years, they are still popular for a long time Ana, Jožef and Frančišek. The picture is similar for men. Franc, who is being followed, disappears the fastest Anton, Ivan and Jožef. It dropped out of the list of the 50 most common names Stefan, and Anže jumps in instead. Meanwhile, the women's list of "top 50" names remained unchanged. The surname remains firmly in the saddle Novak (11,124), which is still the king of surnames. They follow him Horvat, Kovačič and Zupančič.
