Culinary exhibition and competition
After Lent comes a time of renunciation, fasting. It starts on Ash Wednesday and lasts 40 days until Easter. In connection with the ashtray, there are still some picturesque traces preserved in the Slovenian countryside. At the beginning of the 20th century, so-called salt feasts became popular in cities, to which more and more well-known inns invited. Fish, especially not the most appreciated saltfish, is a fasting dish. The largest and most attended soon became the salt festival in the Union Hall of the Grand Hotel Union in Ljubljana, which has been organized as a major culinary event since 1908.
The upcoming culinary exhibition of culinary masterpieces made from various freshwater and marine fish and seafood is also not to be missed.
In addition to the culinary exhibition, there will also be a competition in which chefs from all over Slovenia will participate, creating various culinary masterpieces.
85. The traditional Slanika feast with a culinary competition will take place on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Union Hall of the Grand Hotel Union in Ljubljana.
Culinary specialties will also be available for tasting in the "a la carte" and "take away" offerings. We especially recommend the "Culinary adventure - hot and cold buffet" under the direction of Janez Dolšak, chef of the Union Grand Hotel.
