When the days get shorter and the autumn breeze gently whispers through the leaves, Opatija transforms into a land of chocolate wonders. It is not only a place where chocolate lovers meet, but also a place where stories are woven between the smells of cocoa and the sound of the sea. This year was especially festive, as my family and I went to the 17th Chocolate Festival in Opatija, an event that transcends all boundaries with its magic.

Imagine a city that breathes to the rhythm of chocolate. The streets are full of laughter, music and of course, countless types of chocolate. Every step in Opatija during the festival was like dancing in a sweet paradise, where all chocolate dreams became reality. And we were part of this magical story, immersed in a world where every moment was like a delicious bite.

Heritage Hotel Imperial Opatija: elegance and history

Our adventure began in a prestigious Heritage Hotel Imperial Opatija, which with its rich history and modern comfort represents a perfect blend of past and present. Built in 1885, this hotel has witnessed many historical events and hosted many distinguished guests over the years. Renovated with a sense of preserving the historical heritage, the hotel now combines the elegance of the past with all the modern comforts.

As soon as we arrived, we were enchanted by the hotel's imposing facade, reminiscent of the rich Austro-Hungarian architecture. The interior of the hotel is equally impressive, with high ceilings, marble floors and richly decorated rooms that reflect luxury and prestige. Every step in the hotel was like walking through time, a feeling that is hard to find anywhere else. Our room at the hotel was a true palette of comfort and style. With a combination of classic furniture and modern accessories, they offered the perfect balance between traditional and modern. The large windows offered a wonderful view of the Adriatic Sea, which was like waking up to a dream every morning. The hotel also offers an excellent culinary experience. Their restaurant, where local flavors and international cuisine intertwine, is a real culinary experience. Each meal was prepared with extreme care and represented a real work of art on the plate. The friendliness and professionalism of the staff at the Imperial Hotel was second to none. From reception to departure we felt like royalty.

At the Heritage Hotel Imperial Opatija, we experienced a unique wellness and spa that offered complete relaxation and regeneration. This oasis of peace was equipped with modern wellness services that included various massages, saunas, and treatments. The relaxing environment, friendly staff and first-class service ensured that our wellness visit was an unforgettable part of our chocolate adventure in Opatija.

"Pure Chocolate" concert: a symphony for the senses

As part of the Chocolate Festival, we went on a special experience on Friday evening - the "Pure Chocolate" concert in the Gervais Center. This event was not just a concert, it was a journey through the world of chocolate and music, where taste and sound intertwined, creating an unforgettable experience.

Known for its contemporary architecture and acoustic excellence, the Gervais Center was the perfect venue for such an event. The hall, which can hold several hundred people, was filled with a mix of locals and visitors, all coming to experience the unique fusion of music and chocolate. The "Pure Chocolate" concert was more than just a musical performance; it was a sensual experience. The musicians were selected masters of their craft, playing a variety of instruments, from the piano to the violin, and every note was like a touch of chocolate on the tongue.

The special feature of the concert was its interactivity. Visitors were invited to taste different types of chocolate that matched the musical compositions. This unique approach created a bridge between music and taste, where every bite of chocolate resonated with the tunes played on stage.

Lungomare: a walk by the sea that awakens the soul

A sunny Saturday in Opatija led us to one of the most beautiful experiences - a walk along the famous Lungomare seaside path. Stretching along the coast and offering breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea, this path was perfect for a leisurely family walk and an opportunity to connect with nature and the rich history of this place.

The Lungomare, which is about 12 kilometers long, is known as one of the most beautiful walking trails in Croatia. It starts in Voloski and winds all the way to Lovran, connecting Opatija and its wonderful sights. It was created at the beginning of the 20th century and has been a key part of the abbey's identity ever since. The route runs right next to the sea and offers relaxing views of the Kvarner Gulf. Walking along the edge of the crystal clear sea, surrounded by greenery and historic villas, was truly magical. The uniqueness of Lungomare lies in its ability to combine natural beauty with cultural heritage, as it passes by many historical landmarks, such as the Villa Angiolina and the famous statue "The Girl with the Seagull". Lungomare is not just a path, it is an experience that every visitor to Opatija must experience.

Cafe Strauss: Where history, art and taste intertwine

Since several kilometers of walking along the Lungomare tired us out, we chose Cafe Strauss, located in the heart of the city, for our rest and refreshment. Cafe Strauss, which is part of the chain Liburnia Hotels & Villas, offers a unique combination of traditional elegance and modern comfort. With an interior that reflects the rich history and culture of Opatija, the cafe is an ideal place to relax and enjoy selected delicacies. The offer is really varied and we definitely did not have to resist the Saturday brunch. Every bite was a feast for the taste buds, and this in an ambience that breathes history and elegance.

During the festival, Cafe Strauss also hosted an exhibition dedicated to the first chocolate and cocoa factory in Croatia. This exhibition, which was held in collaboration with Liburnia Hotels & Villas and the Museum of the City of Rijeka, offered visitors an insight into the rich history of the chocolate industry in the region.

During our visit, our attention was drawn to the chocolate workshop for children - Happy Lollipops from the Chocolate Factory. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, children learned the art of making chocolate products. This workshop was not only fun, but also educational, and together we created a unique chocolate lollipop for the first time.

The end of the chocolate symphony

Our last day was dedicated to the Chocolate Festival in the center of Gervais and on the streets of Opatija. From chocolate sculptures to exotic flavors – a feast for all the senses! And of course, we ended with brunch at Cafe Imperial, where we were once again spoiled with sweet delicacies.

The Chocolate Festival in Opatija was a real celebration for all the senses. From incredible chocolate creations and innovative chocolate experiences at Liburnia hotels, to cultural and musical events. The most valuable part of our experience were the family moments together - from relaxing walks, through creative chocolate workshops, to shared meals that were a feast for the taste buds. This festival was an opportunity to create new memories together.

When we were leaving Opatija, we knew that we were leaving not only the city, but the whole experience, full of sweet moments, laughter and joy. The Opatija Chocolate Festival was not just an event, it was a journey into a world where chocolate is more than just a sweet - it is a symbol of happiness, companionship and art. This festival is proof that the best things in life are truly sweet.
