When someone mentions a caravan to us, we imagine it somewhere in a campsite, most likely by the sea. But there are few who think of the American Airstream trailers that we see in American movies and series.
Manufacturer of prestigious and now already 'iconic' caravans Airstream located in Jackson Center, Ohio. The company is known for its seductive products aluminum trailers that we think of the moment someone mentions it to us an American classic. Today, they are more popular than ever, and some even restore them and create real luxury corners for a secluded getaway. But changes are happening everywhere, and Airstream is no different. They started the production of a caravan, which is not made of aluminum, but of glass fibers. The Nest trailer is completely modern and will attract entirely new groups of people.
Airstream has been making aluminum trailers for almost 90 years. In the 1950s, company founder Wally Byam had already experimented with the use of fiberglass. It took almost half a century for Airstream to start producing Nest trailers, the exterior of which is made of the aforementioned material. Nest has a miniature image railway wagon, which has a door in the middle at the back. It has rounded windows and two-tone painting in a combination of gray and white. The front glass is shaped like a kind ski glasses. Like all Airstreams, the Nest is low to the ground and has aerodynamic shape.
In the Nest, travelers have enough space for a microwave oven, a stove and a large enough bathroom with a shower and toilet. The interior is available 10.5 square meters area, which is not excessively large, but this may result in smaller external dimensions of the trailer. The Airstream Nest measures in length 5.1 meters and 2.1 meters in width. The trailer has one axle and weighs 1,550 kilograms, which means that a bigger SUV is quite enough for towing. The Airstream Nest costs from 45,900 US dollars further, which is significantly less than a large, classic aluminum trailer, which costs as much as 139,000 US dollars.
A departure from classic aluminum and the use of other materials are certain for Airstream bold steps. But they had to make them if they wanted to offer them to a wider audience cheaper and more accessible version of the Airstream. It is quite possible that a new popularization of caravans is unfolding before us, because if you ask us, we already have the suitcases ready. And as they say at Airstream, they don't sell trailers, they sell Lifestyle.
