At the moment, diesel engines are again being talked about a lot and have a rather negative connotation in the public eye. But that doesn't mean that people don't like them, because they are still being bought en masse, especially in Europe. And while BMW is developing an electric and hybrid version of the new X3 model, Alpina has given the X3 SUV an extra dose of diesel power.
Alpine, Bavarian manufacturer of BMW vehicles, took BMW's under the microscope 3 liter 6 cylinder engine with two turbines and Mrs further improved. The end result is represented by engine s 333 horsepower and huge 700 Nm of torque. If these numbers haven't convinced you yet, perhaps the information that the Alpina XD3 needs from 0 to 100 km/h only 4.9 seconds and reaches top speed 254 km/h. In more layman's terms, at the moment the Alpina XD3 is one of the fastest, if not the fastest diesel-powered SUV on the market. According to the WLTP measurement standard, consumption should be 9 l/100 km, which should be produced 238 grams of CO2 per kilometer driven.
The converted engine is connected to 8-speed automatic transmission and intelligent four-wheel drive BMW xDrive. This has been further processed by Alpina and has increased grip and even greater driving dynamics. The XD3 also got a new sports suspension with electronically adjustable dampers and active locking of the rear differential. It is installed as standard 20-inch rims, which can be exchanged for 22-inch ones for an additional fee. The Alpina XD3 will be available from the second quarter of this year onwards.
