A dream. Mysterious, strange, eye-opening and also a real nightmare: dreams are all these and much more. Here are some amazing facts about dreams that you might not know.
Is the night full of terror and turmoil behind you, how many dreams do you actually remember and do you dream in color? Here are some amazing facts about dreams that you might not know.
A lucid dream
Lucid dreams are dreams that we are aware of. In them, we can consciously influence the events and the unfolding of dreams. There is even a subculture of people who practice such dreams and use various techniques to achieve them. They do extraordinary things in their dreams, such as flying, passing through walls, and even traveling to different dimensions.
Inventions inspired by dreams
Dreams are responsible for some of humanity's greatest inventions. Some examples: the idea for Google (Larry Page), the sewing machine (Elias Howe), the periodic table (Dimitri Mendeleyev)...
We are paralyzed while dreaming
During sleep and dreaming, our body is practically paralyzed for its own safety. So the body (usually) prevents us from acting the way our dreams dictate. At the same time, thoughts and feelings are shut down, saliva production decreases, the heart rate decreases, and the eyes turn "crow-like".
Some people dream in black and white
12 percent of people dream in black and white, while the others have dreams in color.

Even the blind dream
People who were born blind can still see images in their dreams, but people who were born blind cannot see images. Their dreams are still alive, because they relive feelings in their dreams.
Men dream differently than women
Although all humans dream (except in cases of psychological disorders), men dream differently than women. Men dream more about other men (70 percent), while women dream about men and women in equal proportions. Women tend to dream longer, and their dreams are predominantly emotional in nature. Men have more aggressive dreams, and both physically react to dreams related to sex.
We only dream of people we know
Although our dreams are full of strange people, they are the faces of real people that we have seen once in our life, but do not remember. The witch in our dreams could just as well be the saleswoman we saw when we were three years old.
Active brain
Although we associate dreams with peace and quiet, the brain is more active during dreaming than during the day.
Creativity and dreams
As mentioned earlier, dreams are responsible for many inventions and should not be underestimated. Dreams fill our creativity. People who have REM sleep disorders and therefore do not dream are noticeably less creative and have difficulty in creative problem solving.
Animals dream too
Our animal friends dream too. One of the funniest things is watching a dog bark and "run" after a ball while dreaming.
Dreams are not forever
We forget our dreams as soon as we wake up - five minutes after we wake up, we forget half of our dreams, and within ten minutes, 90 percent of our dreams are forgotten. Explanations say that this happens because dreams are often incomprehensible and confusing, and because we don't even think about dreams in the morning.
Sleep walking
Parasomnias, such as menorrhoea, nightmares, and night terrors, are sleep disturbances characterized by various forms of unwanted activity. They most often appear during sleep or during the transition from sleep to wakefulness. Among the more interesting cases are a woman who had several sexual relations with strangers while sleeping, a man who killed his cousin in his sleep and a man who fell from the third floor in his sleep and survived.
