Amazing hair paintings by hairdresser and artist Alexis Ferrer

After several years of researching how to use hair as a canvas, Spanish hairdresser Alexis Ferrer developed a new technique of color printing hair. He reached the peak in his autumn collection "La favorite". He drew inspiration from 18th-century fabric patterns and decorated his sharply cut blonde hair with flowering branches, butterflies and hummingbirds.

Alexis Ferrer started experimenting with hair printing in 2012 when he was asked to interpret a collection for the Wella Trend Vision Awards. His aim was to innovate with a technique not normally used in hairdressing. That's why photo printing on hair seemed to him the ideal way to present the story in a graphic and impressive way. For Barcelona Fashion Week 2017, Ferrer collaborated with the designer Txell Miras in a collection inspired by shipping containers and fishermen. Models walked the catwalk with their faces covered and portraits of fishermen printed on their hair extensions.

After revisiting and refining his previously used techniques and working to improve color intensity and resolution, he Ferrer updated his process and used digital instead of photographic ink. Blending technology with his craftsmanship has allowed Ferrer to re-create intricate patterns on hair and open a world of endless possibilities for the future. "We were inspired by the 18th-century French garden chateaux," he explains, "when flowers and animals inspired fashion designers to create the best fabrics for the French bourgeoisie."

Collection La favorites was created by combining styles and technology. "The perfect mix for a new generation looking for new fashion frontiers, proving that everything in fashion needs to be invented and innovated," said Ferrer.
