This year too, the young singers of the Tone Tomšič Academic Choir of the University of Ljubljana waited until May and prepared the 87th traditional annual concert under the leadership of conductor Sebastjan Vrhovnik. This angle always represents the peak of the season, which this year, in addition to many home concerts, will also be marked by a tour of Ireland and the prestigious competition for the Grand Prix of Europe, which the singers will take part in in August in Arezzo (Italy).
Conductor Sebastjan Vrhovnik, who has been leading the Tone Tomšič Music Academy for the fourth year, has chosen a rich and diverse program for the annual concert. In the first part of the evening, the choir will present compositions by Erikson, JL Bach, Verdi, Pärt and other renowned classical and more modern composers, and the transition to the second part of the concert, consisting of compositions by local composers, will be heralded by a dramatic novelty by Tadeja Vulc Fortuna. In the second part of the evening, as mentioned, the choir will perform works by Slovenian composers, including Ukmar's setting of Sketch in concert, after which the annual concert is named. Also this year, APZ Tone Tomšič will perform a bunch of novelties by composers of the younger generation. The choir will round off the evening with an arrangement of the Carinthian folk ZmiƏrom moram bondrati by Lojze Lebič, and with this they want to announce the theme of the next year's concert, when they will pay tribute to this renowned composer, conductor and honorary member of APZ on his 80th birthday.
The singers of the Tone Tomšič Academic Choir of the University of Ljubljana, together with the guests, will once again try to fill the large hall of the Slovenian Philharmonic to the last corner and provide listeners with an evening full of emotional charge, youthful drive and, of course, good music.
