It's been fifteen years since the boys from the Finnish band Apocalyptica combined seemingly incompatible things: cello and heavy metal. Eicca Toppinen, Max Lilja, Antero Manninen and Paavo Lotjonen crossed the bows of their cellos and played in a different tone than we were used to with this instrument. The hits of the world-famous band Metallica suddenly got a completely new sound and heavy metal a completely new audience. The new musical phenomenon spread from Finland to the whole world at the speed of light. Their bold feat ended with world fame, studio albums and enthusiastic fans all over the globe. Later, the line-up changed, but the quality remained. They still played heavy music in a classical way, but not calmly like chamber musicians, but like real metalheads. Long hair, blackness and energetic head shaking are constant companions of their performances. The boys expanded their repertoire. So, in addition to Metallica's hits, they also covered hits by groups and individuals such as Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Edward Grieg, Faith No More, Panther, Rammstein, Sepultura, Slayer and many others. They also added a rhythm that keeps it Mikko Sirén and some vocals, which further contribute to the true experience of metal music. They have already performed in Slovenia a few times, and now we can hear them in the excellent Vienna hall BA-CA Halle in the Gasometer complex. This year they released their seventh studio album, called 7th Symphony.
