Today has been described by many as the day that could change the PC industry forever. Apple has introduced its own Apple M1 processor, designed for desktop and laptop computers, based on the ARM architecture. Ever since the modern world has known computers, at least the "classic" ones like desktops and laptops, everything has revolved around the same Intel X86 architecture. Smartphones started to change this world and thus showed in the best light how powerful the ARM architecture can be.
As it was already known, he intends Apple in the next two years to completely switch to ARM processor architecture, and the first step in this direction was taken today - with the introduction of a new processor Apple M1 (or more precisely SoC) and three new computers that will use its incredible power.
Apple M1 processor so it is octa-core SoC, which is made in production process 5 nm and contains huge 16 billion transistors. For comparison: Apple A14 Bionic The SoC has “only” 11.8 billion transistors. So it's not just an expanded processor, but a step forward.
Apple M1 has four cores to save energy that have 4 MB of L2 cache and four large cores that have 12 MB of the L2 cache. Apple hasn't shown direct performance comparisons, but they claim this new chip has 3 times the capacity at equal to energy consumption as a competitor. It should be noted that this does not mean that it performs 3 times better overall. The GPU has 8 cores and Apple even claims that it is the fastest integrated graphics processor in the entire market (2.6 TFLOPS). The M1 has all the classic advantages of an "all-in-one" solution, such as an integrated memory controller, built-in Neural Engine, ISP, etc. It's all very impressive on paper, but we'll see how the chip performs in practice. If we know anything, it should provide more portable autonomy for laptops, due to extremely low power consumption, at least judging by the new laptops that he introduced Apple.
Vice President Apple's machine technologies Johnny Srouji said the M1 has the world's fastest processor cores and the fastest integrated graphics for PCs, and delivers incredible performance in machine learning thanks to Apple's Neural Engine, as you can see in this video.
Let's see more key devices, presented by Apple at this event!
Macbook Air M1
Apple has unveiled a new MacBook Air that boasts some impressive specs. Thanks to the economical M1 chip, which does not need cooling with a fan and thus has no active cooling, its battery can last up to 18 hours of watching videos or a full 5 hours of Internet browsing. In practice, these numbers will definitely be a little lower, but still the given number is impressive and promises a lot. In terms of performance, Apple claims the new processor is up to 3.5 times faster than the previous model. The GPU is up to five times faster, and the SSD is twice as fast. The base model is priced at $999 in the US.

Macbook Mini – M1
The new Mac Mini, with an impressive starting price of just $699, is just like Air it boasts the new M1 chip, but despite everything still has active cooling, also because it will be intended for slightly more demanding tasks. The latter can also be used for some basic graphics tasks and can replace many desktop computers in the future.

Macbook Pro M1
Apple introduced a new MacBook Pro - by far the most important "computer" product, which also has the new Apple M1 chip and still active cooling with fans. In the case of the Pro model, Apple also tried to show some more accurate numbers and comparisons with the previous model. The new model can compile code in XCode up to 2.8 times faster than the previous model. Rendering complex 3D models in Final Cut Pro is also up to 5.9 times faster. The battery also impresses, allowing up to 20 hours of video viewing or 17 hours of web browsing. The MacBook Pro starts at $1,299 in the US.
