We already know that smart watches have many other functions besides showing the time. Apple's new watch is even designed to detect diseases. Who knows, maybe in a few years it will replace some medical devices.
A study, by Cardiogram founder Brandon Ballinger, revealed that the clock Apple Watch capable of detecting diabetes in as many as 85 percent of cases. At the same time, we must add that the finding applies only to patients who have already been diagnosed with diabetes in the past.
The research focused on the users of this smart watch. She showed that the watch detected diabetes in 462 out of 14,000 owners. How is this possible? People who suffer from diabetes, have a heart rate that differs from that of healthy individuals. It has a built-in clock heart rate sensor, which allows her to identify diabetes by an irregular heartbeat.
This is far from the only disease you can detect with the Apple Watch. When the watch is used together with Cardiogram's algorithm based on artificial intelligence, it recognizes with a 97% probability unusual heartbeat. We can also use the smart watch for detection sleep apnea and high blood pressure.
The researchers want to see if the technology can be improved to the point where it could be used in healthcare. We will get an answer soon.
