Australian minimalism: the new Scandinavian chic

Instagram was flooded with photos of minimalism - but not the refined, bright Scandinavian minimalism we already know, but a much more fun and colorful one, inspired by the Australian understanding of interior design.

Claire Driscoll, creative director of the design studio Studio CD, describes Australian minimalism as a thoughtful choice of details, materials, furniture and decor that work harmonious and homogeneous, so that no element stands out. Great emphasis is placed on the selection of textures and finishing elements that reflect the natural surroundings. This is how they create spaces where the border with the outside is blurred.

The minimalist style, which is traditionally defined as "bare walls, bright colors and the concept: less is more", can be too much for many people. Even Scandinavian design, which has become very popular in recent years, strongly emphasized bright, fresh tones. Australian minimalism, however, commands using a bolder and more colorful palette of color tones and shades.

A space in which there are not too many things, which breathes and with selected details it expresses the personality of the owners, their way of life and their sense of aesthetics, can be classified as Australian minimalism. But for the final image of the room to be like this, it is essential that the owner understands and is aware of who he is and what his lifestyle is.

In their understanding of minimalism, Australians undeniably also include individual pieces of furniture or decor made from natural materials, which give the room warmth and homeliness.

How do you bring Australian minimalism into your home?

The first step is to get rid of all the unnecessary junk. Empty the shelves and put only a few of the most beautiful decorative pieces on them. When choosing colors, pay attention to the matching of color tones. Subtly integrate modern furniture into the space and soften it with softer decorative elements.

And don't forget: the key is in the connection of colors, textures and elements in the room.
