An avatar is a 3D model, icon or thumbnail that represents a user on the Internet. Paralyzed soldier Jake is given a new alien body through mind transfer, his avatar in the wonderful new world of Pandora. He almost dies in an unknown landscape, but is saved in time by Neytiri, a native of Pandora.
