When David Beckham is no longer the king of free kicks, but the king of plum jam

When you think of David Beckham, you might picture a perfect hairstyle, a precise free kick and a fashionably coordinated family on the red carpet. But beware – Beckham reigns in a completely different realm these days: in his garden in the Cotswolds, among chickens, bees and ripe plums, from which he makes his – almost legendary – jam. Here is the recipe for plum jam "Beckjam"

A recipe for plum jam “Beckjam”? No, this is not another celebrity fad. Beckham really gets his hands dirty – and not with Dior hand cream, but with home-made plums. When his first batch of jam was so successful that it even convinced Victorio, he happily dubbed it “Beckjam.” The result? The internet exploded. Fans all over the world are now dreaming of having it for breakfast – or at least tasting this delicious plum wonder. And since plum season is just around the corner, it’s high time you saved this recipe – and maybe even gifted a jar labeled “Beckham Jam.”

Beckham's recipe for "Beckjam" plum jam with rum

Ingridients:

    • 5 kg of ripe plums
    • 1 kg of sugar
    • 2 organic lemons
    • 200 ml rum (preferably dark, good quality – Beckham wouldn't skimp)

Preparation:

  1. Wash the plums, pit them and cut them into quarters. If they are very juicy, all the better - the plum jam must have character.
  2. In a large pot, alternately layer plums and sugar – as if building a fruit tower. Leave to stand overnight in a cool place.
  3. The next day, heat the mixture and cook over medium heat for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  4. Peel the lemons, cut them into thin slices (without the seeds) and add to the jam when it starts to thicken.
  5. Towards the end of cooking – when the jam is bubbling nicely and dripping nicely when you lift the pan – add the rum. Stir and taste (for scientific reasons, of course).
  6. Pour the jam into sterilized, heated jars. Seal tightly and place in a lukewarm oven with the door slightly open to allow the top to set nicely and the jam to cool slowly.
  7. If you want, put a personalized label on the jars. Maybe “Beckham – with love from the kitchen” or “Beckham wannabe edition”.

Why is this jam special?

Because it's not just jam. It's a story about how a former football star finds satisfaction in simple things in his mature years: homegrown fruit, cooking, and – let's face it – having his wife film his every move while the internet goes crazy.

And if David Beckham can transform from sports icon to jam master, who says you can't become the star of your own kitchen?
