The criterion of a good photograph is not a perfect body, but its message.
An exhibition of classic black-and-white photographs by Boštjan Gunčar, produced without computer processing, is on view in the Photogallery stolp. The author creates an intimate atmosphere with a rich tonal scale of grays, while at the same time primarily looking for the female body for its expressiveness and not perfection.
Art critic Sonja Janša wrote about the exhibition, among other things: 'Gunčar's photos are expressive, you can feel homeliness, intimate shelter and complete trust between the model and the photographer. The key to good photography is an attitude that must be respectful and open. The photographer must create a relaxed atmosphere in which the model surrenders to the eye of the lens without hesitation.'
Boštjan Gunčar comes from Kranj, has been working as a freelance photographer since 2001. His artistic path was actually stimulated by a gift at his confirmation, when he received his first camera at the age of 14.
In the cycles from the 80s, he devoted himself mainly to the socially critical genre and urban youth culture. He became interested in artistic photographs, mostly female nudes, in the early 80s. He also occasionally photographs portraits and, exceptionally, male nudes.
He often adds objects to the models in the studio that create a fetishistic or sadomasochistic context, emphasizing the contrast between organic and mechanical, soft and rough, natural and artificial. Between 1995-2000, he photographed several series in the studio during the changing bodies of pregnant women and their children.
