In tribute to astronaut Scott Carpenter, who wore the first Swiss wristwatch in space in 1962, Breitling presents the prestigious limited edition Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute. With a platinum case, 24-hour dial and hand-wound movement, this watch is more than just a timepiece – it is a historical artifact.

In the world of watches, where every dial counts and every function means something, Breitling once again proves that it can not only measure time, but also tell it. With a limited edition Breitling Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute, the brand returns to where it began writing the story of watches in space more than 60 years ago.

The clock that transcended the boundaries of the Earth

In 1962, American astronaut Scott Carpenter orbited the Earth three times during the Mercury-Atlas 7 mission. On his wrist was a special version of the Breitling Navitimer, adapted for use in space: with a wider bezel for use with gloves, a stretchable metal bracelet for wearing over a spacesuit, and, most importantly, a 24-hour dial that allowed orientation in space without the usual day-night cycles. This watch became the first Swiss wristwatch in space.

Platinum masterpiece

To mark the centenary of Carpenter’s birth, Breitling presents the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Scott Carpenter Centenary. The 41 mm diameter and 13 mm thick platinum case surrounds a deep blue dial that evokes the view of the Earth from orbit. The white inner scale for calculations and contrasting subdials emphasize the functionality and aesthetics of the watch. Red accents on the hands add dynamism.

The back of the watch reveals a hand-wound Breitling B02 movement with a 70-hour power reserve. The bridges are engraved with the inscriptions “Carpenter”, “Aurora 7”, “3 orbits around the Earth”, “Mercury 7” and “Scott Carpenter Centenary 1925–2025”. The sapphire crystal caseback bears additional inscriptions: “First Swiss wristwatch in space” and “One of 50”, as the watch is produced in a limited edition of 50 pieces.
