If you were to walk past The Cornershop in London, at first glance you would see through the display cases just an ordinary grocery store, full of everyday cans of Coke, boxes of cereal and magazines. Only if you took a closer look would you realize that in fact all the products are sewn from soft felt. With a great business idea, Lucy Sparrow created the softest pop-up shop in the world, offering more than 4,000 famous brands made of felt.
A young English artist Lucy Sparrow she likes to sew. And she did that continuously the last seven months. During this time, she sewed more than 4000 food products of famous brands made of felt. It's like a corner store in Bethnal Green, East London filled with bags of crisps and frozen vegetables, with magazines, cigarette packs, chocolates, cans and sweets - all hand-stitched, all unique and all immensely soft.
Lucy implemented her business idea with the help of Kickstarter. On it she collected approx 13,500 euros, with which she was able to tackle a replica of a typical British grocery store. So she created The Cornershop – the softest shop in the whole world, which even has a cash register made of soft felt and which actually functions as a art installation and a permanent exhibition space of Lucy's tiny, unique artworks.
Throughout August, Lucy Sparrow herself sells her food/artwork at The Cornershop, and you can also order them in her online store. You can find more of Lucy Sparrow's projects here here.
