KAL is an explosive mix of a band with an energetic rock'n'roll attitude, with roots in sad Balkan blues, wildly playing Roma music and flirting with a dance beat.
The group consists of top Serbian musicians who explore the treasury of Romani music and mix it with the most modern musical influences.
Their concerts are a musical excursion into Roma history, myths, traditions, prejudices, pathos and pride.
The main conductor of the groupse is also a founding member, charismatic vocalist and excellent guitarist DRAGAN RISTIĆ, who with his Romani smile, charm and communication with the audience always manages to wake up all the people present, so that everyone starts dancing and swaying to the Balkan rhythms.
KAL (Roma Black) attracted a worldwide audience with the album KAL (2006) released by "Asfalt Tango Production" from Berlin, one of the two biggest labels of Eastern and Roma music in Europe, produced by Mike Nielsen (known as collaborator and producer Natasha Atlas, Underworld and Jamiroquai). KAL plays contemporary Roma music based on traditional melodies. The characteristic of this Romani musical style is the two-quarter rhythm, but the most dominant instruments are violins and accordions. Acoustic bass, guitars and percussion also benefit from KAL's traditional instruments.
