Bicycles as such are not the most beautiful thing in this world. You can only do so much with a frame and two wheels. The beauty of a bike therefore mostly rests in its functionality and not so much in its aesthetics, but one company is trying to change that very boldly - Carbon Wood Bikes. All their bikes are handmade from wood and carbon fiber and are a fine example of applied art.
Italian bicycle brand Carbon Wood Bikes makes a beautiful and unique wheels, which on the outside appear as if they were made entirely of wood. But knowing that wheels made entirely of wood would be impractical as they would be too heavy and too delicate, the design team decided to wood (layers of ash and mahogany) combined with carbon fiber layers. This allows for a great aesthetic appearance, and for cycling itself, it means that the bike will not fall apart, even if you are energetic cyclist.

All the frames of these artificial bikes are made by hand, and the wheels weigh only a few grams over 9 kilograms. We think they're so beautiful they would belong above the fireplace, but that would probably be playing with fire. And let's hope that they sanded the seat well so that we don't "smack" any cod in the back side while driving.
