On May 15, we celebrate International Family Day, which was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993. The theme of this year's International Family Day is "Gender equality and the rights of the child in the modern family".
Although the musical film Prava nota set the bar very high with the first film, it seems that the girls from the group Bardenska Belle will move it an octave higher in the second. For the past few months, we've been teased with trailers for Perfect Note 2, letting us know that the first film's success was no fluke. The pop culture phenomenon is already waiting for us in cinemas from May 14, 2015 with a new dose of laughter, great singing and life lessons.
Flying is an ancient desire of man, but with modern technology it is becoming a reality. Or it already is. Thanks to jetpack airplane models, the sky is now the domain of man, not just birds. The Superman-style flying device is the second skin of Yves Rossy, who is one of the few people with a working jetpack. He has already flown a B17 bomber, circumnavigated Mount Fuji and flown over the Grand Canyon, and now he has announced his most daring flight yet, a flight over Dubai with his protégé Vince Reffet.
Advertisements are mainly to blame today, but if you're wondering where the image of a woman who doesn't go to work, who cooks, washes, irons, cleans the apartment, takes care of the children and her husband, she looks happy and smiling like never before, and yes let's not forget, always well-groomed from head to toe, it takes a good half century into the past. Because although it seems that today the happy housewife is just a myth, looking back shows that we found such women in everyday life as well. Just check out a day in the life of an American housewife in 1941.
Let's face it, there are a lot of things we don't know about our mothers. There was already a lot of life behind them before we were born, and they didn't tell us everything when we were around. That's why a group of sons and daughters sent their mothers to polygraph tests, or lie detector tests as they call them, in order to learn certain truths about them. Some were in for quite a few surprises.
Velenjka, the largest shopping center in Velenjka, will turn into a real extravagant circus in white for one day, which will be provided by the artistic attractions of exceptional street artists.
This year marks 70 years since Nazi Germany signed its capitulation. It was written on May 7, 1945, and the guns finally fell silent eight days later. Despite the decades that have passed, all the wounds have not yet healed and never will, but the scars, even in the form of the remains of Nazi bunkers, should serve as a memory and a reminder that something like this must not happen again. 70 years later, photographer Jonathan Andrews visited the places where the Germans set up their defensive positions against the Allies, who wanted to wrest Europe from the hands of tyranny.
We often say that works of art speak for the artists, but simply admiring their works is not enough to really get to know the artists. Fortunately, rich biographical films come to our aid here, showing us the interesting lives of top artists who have gone down in art history.
For 41 years, Hello Kitty had to wait for her first Chinese restaurant. After winning the hearts of the Japanese in 1974 as a character on a coin purse, continuing her march to the United States and then driving the rest of the world crazy, it's no surprise that her image adorns practically everything today. Cartoons, songs, an airplane and a fashion line were dedicated to her, and now she also has her own Chinese restaurant. This one, however, is not only themed, as it will serve uniquely arranged dishes in the Hello Kitty style.
As part of the popular Italian music festival Sonisphere 2015, the legendary trash metal/heavy metal group Metallica is returning to Italy on June 2, 2015. As an independent country, Slovenia first performed at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, when we were represented by 1X Band and their "Tih ževen dan". So far we haven't managed to win, and our best ranking is 7th place. We have summarized all the Slovenian representatives who have represented us at Eurovision to date. We hope that victory smiles at us this year.
Although quite a few holidays are behind us, cycling fans are still waiting for theirs. This has stretched over several days in the last decade. This year, the Franja Marathon, which will take place from June 12 to 14, 2015, will turn 34. From humble beginnings, it has grown into an international recreational road cycling competition. Due to the many routes, the event is intended for everyone, from the best to families with children. Its popularity is evidenced by the saying that if, according to an unwritten rule, every Slovene should step on the top of Triglav at least once, every cyclist who gives it his all should ride Franja.
