Will we ride gondolas around New York in the future? If you're thinking of moving to the capital of the world, we suggest you invest in flood insurance and a gondola, you know, that long, narrow boat with curves at the ends that's intrinsically associated with Venice. Why? A new study finds that many floods, like the one in 2012 when Hurricane Sandy ravaged the US and flooded subways and streets, will be three to 17 times more common by the end of the century.
We are the well-known winners of the campaign Naj kopališče 2016, in which bathers chose the winners in six categories for the 26th time, namely among small, medium and large thermal baths, annual and natural baths and indoor swimming pools. This summer served with many sunny and warm days, and the providers of bathing services could use their hands, and the visitors also came to their account. Now is the time for revision. And which Slovenian natural swimming pool did we choose as the best swimming pool of 2016? Even more than that, we're interested in who the winners are among the indoor and thermal pools we've moved to now that summer's gone bye-bye. All the answers can be found below.
By some strange coincidence, the measure of a good destination is the number of tourists who visit it - so the more tourists, the better the destination. But this is not always true. There are hundreds of gems in the world, paradises on Earth, which surprisingly are not yet so popular among travelers. Here are the amazing places we must visit before they are overrun by tourists!
Did you know that taking a picture of the Eiffel Tower at night is a crime and you can be fined for posting it on social media? You can only photograph the Eiffel Tower at night if you obtain permission in advance from the operator (Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel). Why? You will never guess which is the biggest tourist attraction in Europe. It had tough competition, as it faced the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, the Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona, the Roman Colosseum, the Acropolis of Athens and the Guinness Storehouse brewery in Dublin, which celebrated last year. The World Travel Awards Association awarded the tourism Oscar for the biggest tourist attraction this time to an attraction in Northern Ireland.
The recently opened House of Horrors or The House of Horrors in Črešnjeveci near Gornja Radgona doesn't look particularly scary from the outside, but once you cross its threshold, it's like living your worst nightmare from which you can't wake up. When the chirping of birds is replaced by ominous music and sounds like from Stephen King movies, when you find yourself in pitch darkness and when a creepy clown greets you from the fog, even the bravest's blood freezes. Do you dare to visit it? Visit at your own risk!
Slovenia is richer for a new glamping resort. Glamping Dvorec Ramšak (Glamping Chateau Ramšak) is located just a stone's throw away from Maribor, surrounded by vineyards (it is arranged within the framework of Ramšak viticulture, which offers white wines of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon, Yellow Muscat, Green Sylvan and Laška Riesling). Guests can choose between a unique treehouse or glamping tents.
What are the best places to live in 2016? The Economist magazine has revealed a fresh list of cities where life is the best in the world. The ranking of 140 cities was prepared by its research and analytical department, but unfortunately there are no Slovenian cities among them, which is why the city that is only a stone's throw away from Slovenia is at the very top. There were no changes at the very top. The title of the best place to live in the world went to the Australian city for the sixth time in a row.
From now on, you can be a nudist in the middle of London. On one of the roof terraces near Parliament and the Palace of Westminster, the first nudist sunbathing terrace has been opened, where you can enjoy yourself completely naked on deckchairs, in hammocks, jump on a trampoline and have refreshments in the bar, without being looked at strangely. London is slowly turning into a paradise for nudists. Already in June, the pop-up restaurant The Bunyadi opened its doors in the English capital, where you can enjoy food in an elf costume.
