Cerknica lake

Due to the easy and quick access (approx. 1.5 h), beautiful nature, fresh air, beautiful view and good company, Slivnica is very visited especially on weekends in all seasons.

Magic dance
Its "magical reputation" gives it additional value, as it is located just below its peak Coprniška cave, from which warm and moist air rises in winter, which creates fog. This contributed to the creation of the legend about the co-operator's residence at Drains, because in many legends, Slivnica is mentioned as the haunt of witches, who were accused of causing storms, hail, taking milk from cows, causing disease and damage with spells, turning into animals, flying on brooms and many other things. With a bit of imagination, let's dance a witch's dance on a broom, and then continue our journey to Dom na Slivnica, which is open on weekends from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rewarded with a beautiful view of the whole Cerknik field with a lake and distant hills, we will enjoy homemade Slivnica tea and Coprnica apple rolls served to us by the friendly caretaker. It is also possible to sleep in the home, but the real attraction is the cabin suite for two or three people. But this time we decide to go a little further - looking for this enchanted land, so let's go down - Horuk down - to the unique intermittent lake and get to know its ever-changing image more closely. Lake Cerkniško is the largest Slovenian lake, where countless opportunities for recreation and relaxation open up to us. It is a place that is perfect for a relaxing walk, cycling, horse riding, boating and much more.

Bee Tango
But first we take a walk by the lake to Beekeeping learning paths, which can be recognized from afar by the colorful beehive that stands at the beginning of this path. There, for our health, we treat ourselves to at least one pot of homemade honey or some other honey product sold by Cerknik beekeepers. Then let's go on a short but interesting beekeeping trail, where we will learn, among other things, why bees sting, how bees talk and what the bee dance is like. And bzzzz..., let's take advantage of the rest of the afternoon and learn a little more about our largest Slovenian lake. We will get the most information in the Lake Temple Museum, which is located a few kilometers away, in the village of Dolnje jezero. In the museum, every Saturday at 3 p.m., in addition to the rich ethnological collection, you can see a model of Lake Cerkniška. It is made on a scale of 1 : 2500, size 3 x 5 m and shows the geographical and water system of the lake, and with an expert explanation that lasts about 45 minutes, it allows visitors to learn everything about the creation and cessation of Lake Cerkniška. Now let's familiarize ourselves with the culinary specialties of this beautiful part of Slovenia, so let's drive to Rakek, a settlement near Cerknica, where we will see Gostilna Pav on the main road. The inn is open every day from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., except Monday, and in its pleasant atmosphere, we will be served first with homemade salami, then we will be able to choose from among other things a wide range of fish and seafood specialties, bull anthers, frog legs, foal, various steaks and pizzas. We end our adventure with one of the desserts, among which chocolate pear with vanilla cream reigns supreme, and we spin to the rhythm of our favorite dance towards home.
