CES 2017: Samsung QLED TV - the future of the picture

Samsung QLED TV

OLED is dead, long live QLED! At CES 2017, Samsung introduced the Samsung QLED TV with 4K resolution and the use of quantum dots. Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode technology delivers the most realistic image to date, regardless of how bright the room is.

Samsung is on CES 2017 brought television Samsung QLED TV, which brings quantum dots, which apply to the future of the image. While resolution has practically reached its limit (the limit that the human eye is still capable of perceiving), the battle has now moved into the realm of color. There will be three versions available, namely Q7, Q8 and Q9. Samsung QLED TV delivers from 1500 to 2000 nits of brightness.

What are quantum dots? Quantum dots deliver colors so accurate and pure that you'll mistake the scenes on the screen for the real thing. They are nanoparticles (small crystals) that reflect different colors depending on their size.

Unlike LCD and LED screens, they create and mix only the necessary wavelengths, which makes the picture more beautiful than the aforementioned couple, who use white or blue diodes, and in addition it is energy consumption is also lower. The screen is still LCD, quantum technology merely replaces it diode light source, resulting in an image with a wider color range.

For comparison, a classic LCD displays up to 30 percent of the colors that the human eye can perceive. OLED is a big, but for now too expensive, step forward.

The gap was filled by QLED. Quantum dots represent a compromise between price and quality. The quantum dot display delivers up to 50 percent wider color gamut.
