Chanel is another big name from the fashion world that has come under fire, especially on social media. What is it that has excited the public? The French fashion "god" announced a new product - the boomerang. Maybe not enough to get excited about? How about styling this wood and resin prop with the Chanel logo and a $1,325 price tag? Well, this warmed the public, especially the Australian one, because the boomerang is part of their or aboriginal cultures.
On Twitter, the network most often used for activist-tinged records, was the most lively. Alison Whittaker, a professor from Sydney, wrote: "When Chanel trying to trample your culture!” There was no lack of like-minded people even on Instagram and other networks.
V To Chanel otherwise, as a sign of apology, they wrote that they "extremely respect all cultures of the world and deeply regret if they hurt anyone". Inspiration, they say, they looked for in various leisure activities that are characteristic of a certain part of the world. Interestingly, Chanel sells boomerangs, as well as many other sports props, sporadically since 2005.
So the smoke has cleared, the public has spoken, and the caravan goes on.
