Clay speakers: Pottery and technology in one

Clay speakers: Pottery and technology in one.

The development of technology has led to the creation of many artificial materials. At the same time, we have somewhat forgotten how many useful substances the Earth offers. Fortunately, there are still people among us who know how to take advantage of them.

Speakers Mapuguaquen are made from natural materials such as clay, leather and wool. The name in translation means 'the sound of the earth' and comes from the Mapuche language, which is used in some parts of Chile and Argentina. Who would have thought that cooperation between pottery and high technology is really possible.

The loudspeakers, which are designed in accordance with the local concept of aesthetics, are produced in limited quantities at south of Chile. In doing so, they use traditional techniques and natural materials.

They came up with the project at the design studio Documentary Design, which they founded Pablo Ocqueteau and Philine von Düszeln. Their goal is to reawaken love for manual production of goods. 80 % of the materials used in the manufacture of the speaker is biodegradable.

Mapuguaquen, which will seek financial support from Kickstarter, will be available as monaural, 2.1 sound system and stereo speaker. The creative team will plant a tree for every product sold.
