The first store without packaging opens in Ljubljana. Together with the Municipality of Ljubljana, Snaga is opening an alternative shopping center in the center. This will be the first store without packaging in Slovenia, which will also be a rental shop and a cafe, and it will only feature local and fair products.
In Ljubljana is promising the first store without packaging. It is a concept that is not yet present in Slovenia. In the first Slovenian store of its kind - in cooperation with MOL and with many other partners opens it in Ljubljana Strength – we will be able to shop from different types of cereals, spices, rice, coffee, cocoa, dried fruit to pasta, oil, soap and pulses. We will pack customers brought with them (can also be socks). The purchase is carried out by first weighing the packaging, then putting the food into it and paid by weight. If you do not bring the packaging with you, it is available in the store reusable packaging (cotton bags, glass containers, etc.).
This kind of concept creates green jobs and it has small environmental footprint, as the bulk of the produce that will be here will not travel long distances, and what is not locally produced will come from fair trade. The store will also not cause additional waste.
It will also be in the store multipurpose cafe, which will work according to the principle of reuse, upcycling, i.e. the creative use of old objects, social inclusion and fair trade. Also the offer of the cafe – coffee, juices, desserts, snacks – will lean on locally produced food and products from fair trade. They will also encourage you in the cafeteria learning manual skills, such as sewing and crocheting, will also be on the agenda pop-up repair shops smaller items, and events swap parties – exchange of clothes, fashion accessories, toys, etc. It will still be in the store rental shop. According to the library principle, things that we need only occasionally or only for a short time will be borrowed, such as e.g. household and garden tools (hammers, hedge trimmers, sanders, household appliances, microscopes, sewing machines, etc.).

Towards sustainable and ethical consumption the store will also promote with monthly exchanges of children's clothes, by encouraging the use of textile and recycled bags in Ljubljana markets, they will also draw attention to pretzels the problem of fast fashion, which encourages with low prices mindless shopping, and the price for this is paid by the workers who work in inhumane conditions and the planet Earth, which the textile industry destroys with tons of discarded textiles. Did you know that in Ljubljana alone in 2016, two collection centers collected just 43 tons of waste textiles? A shocking statistic that the first packaging-free store will try to fix. The exact location of the store is not yet known, but it is expected to be very soon.
