Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, an English-born musician who released his first solo album “Extrapolation” in 1969, soon after moved to the US where he joined Tony Williams' jazz-rock trio Lifetime and the ensemble of the legendary trumpeter Miles Davis. His electric lineup Mahavishnu Orchestra, and one of the first fusion bands, introduced a completely new style into the musical alphabet that brought together electric jazz and rock with Eastern and Indian musical influences. In 1975, he founded a band Shakti, with which he combined jazz and Indian music. He performed with her for the first time in Slovenia in 1977 in the Tivoli Hall. During his long musical career, John McLaughlin worked with, among others Carla Bley, Gil Evans, Miroslav Vitoušs, Wayne Shorter, The Rolling Stones and others.

In 1979, he formed a short-lived band with drummer Tony Williamson and bassist Jaco Pastorius Trio Of Doom. In the same year, he performed with Larry Coryell and Al Di Meola at the Tivoli Hall in Ljubljana. In the eighties, he collaborated with many musicians, including an Indian percussionist To Trilok Gurtu, who performed with John's trio in 1991 for the first time in Slovenia in Cankarjev dom. In 1996, John McLaughlin reunited with his colleagues Pacom de Lucio and Alom Di Meolo. The Guitar Trio reunited for a world tour and released an album of the same name.
