Concurs de Castells 2016 - erected the tallest human tower in history

Concurs de Castells 2016

Building living towers is one of the traditional customs in Spain, more precisely in Catalonia. The so-called Concurs de Castells (castells is the Catalan word for tower) is also held every year in the Spanish city of Tarragona, where this year it was held for the 26th time. On it, as elsewhere, teams compete in erecting a human tower. This year, one team managed a feat that no one has done before.

We are amazing people. Just look at what people do at festivals Concurs de Castells, a traditional competition where teams place human towers, i.e. towers made of people, which means that the competitors are climbing on top of each other, si they stand on the shoulders and they are trying to keep it from collapsing. Balance, strength and courage are key ingredients.

Normally the human towers are nine 'storeys' (approx. 10 metres) high, but this year the spectators were in Tarragona witness for the first time in history 10-story tower.

Falls are an inevitable part of this type of competition (putting is time limited), but even so, they are not painful, as the competitors skilfully fight each other. The human tower is otherwise successfully erected if the team also successfully 'tumbles' it, i.e. without falls.
