In the Stolp nad Pelikanova potjo at the Old Castle of Celje, the photographic exhibition Dialog of Images, by David Brusnjak, is on display until November 6.
Photographer David Brusnjak (MF FZS, EFIAP) is one of those authors who takes a broad approach to his work, as he deals with various technical approaches, connects the past or the photographic past with our time, and also looks for different contents with which to create his series . We know him as a landscape painter, a photographer of idyllic landscapes, as well as a figure painter in various variations.
The author's series of images could be defined as portrait photographs, but not in the usual sense, but in combination with documentary photography. The characters that appeared on his recordings can actually be found everywhere, but they were in a completely specific place and with an expression that was present at a certain moment. When we observe them, we can realize that they are part of a situation, that they spontaneously get involved in it and make it up. If we want, we can also understand part of their narratives, social positions, interests or feelings from these photos. Of course, a photograph cannot offer us a complete picture of an individual - that is not its purpose either. Rather, it shapes for us what is happening, in which the subject is involved as an individualist with various characteristics, of which he cannot express very many of them at the moment of taking the photograph. The interesting thing about such photos is that they allow us to interpret a situation, create many emotional values, and in fact never tell everything. The author also built certain feelings by using the technical production of images, excluding colors. In addition to the fact that this is a relation to an older photograph, we can also talk about emphasizing the tonal scale, which in the range between light and dark emphasizes the emotional effects even more.
